“Fast, affordable, and professional service. They showed up on time, made sure to wrap all my furniture and placed it at my new house where I wanted it. I will be using this crew the next time I need to move”
I’m Kurt Halverson, and I run the crews at Rockford Family Movers. Apartments around this metro come with their own headaches — a walk-up in Rockford’s historic district with three flights and no elevator, a Loves Park complex that wants the truck off the lot by a hard deadline, a leasing office rationing the single loading spot out front. We’ve been working our way through those buildings since 2009.
Flights, landings, and the mover’s clock
The three-story pre-war buildings near downtown Rockford stack skinny flights onto cramped landings, while the newer Machesney Park and Loves Park complexes hand you a shared dumpster corral in place of a loading zone. Cody Aldritch counts the stairwell during the estimate, so the flights and the haul from the curb are already folded into your flat figure — not dropped on you the day of.
| Crew | Rate | Typical unit |
|---|---|---|
| 2 movers + truck | $129/hr | Studios and 1BR apartments |
| 3 movers + truck | $175/hr | 2BR and up, upper-floor walk-ups |
Flat rates by unit type
| Unit | Flat rate |
|---|---|
| Ground-floor studio | $360 – $500 |
| 1BR on a second or third floor, no elevator | $470 – $650 |
| 2BR apartment, upper floor | $720 – $980 |
| Unit with a shared or metered loading zone | $560 – $790 |
| Certificate of insurance for the complex | No charge |
Every apartment job rolls out with pads, dollies, and shrink-wrap folded into the figure, and cargo coverage that reaches $1,000,000 per shipment. Should your building ask for a certificate of insurance, Sherri forwards it to your management office at no cost.
The building quirks we plan for
A downtown Rockford walk-up means a stair carry with no elevator to spare your knees, and the complexes along Harlem Road and out in Loves Park often limit how long a truck can idle in the fire lane. Wade Kohlmeier runs our apartment board, and he’ll level with you about which complexes insist on a COI and which pinch your loading window. Ahead of your date, he’ll have nailed down:
- A certificate of insurance made out to your complex management, free of charge
- The proper loading spot, fire lane, or dumpster-corral access the building permits
- Whether the complex sets a limit on how long the truck can stay parked
- The flight count and landing turns so the crew arrives with the right dollies and pads
Winter carries and one flat weekend price
A February load-out is a stair carry through slush and road salt, so we roll out runners and blanket every piece from the unit door down to the truck to keep it dry. And since lease turnovers cluster on Fridays and Saturdays, weekend slots bill at the plain weekday rate. Nothing packed yet? Our full-service packing team steps in. Stuck between leases? Short-term storage keeps it all. Trading up to a house? Have a look at local moving, and our moving calculator hands you a number right now.
