I’m Kurt Halverson, born and raised in Machesney Park, and I got into this trade the way a lot of Rockford guys do — carrying furniture for somebody else and watching how the money side worked. Two things stuck with me from those years: how a 26-footer actually gets down a snowed-in Northern Illinois street, and how quick a family gets squeezed when the price rides on a clock that keeps running after the truck is packed.
Why my brother and I started this in 2009
Same complaint every time — nobody around here would commit to a real number before move day, and everybody had a story about a bill that ballooned. So back in 2009 we bought one truck and built Rockford Family Movers around the flip side of that: size the job, write the flat price, sign it, and stand behind it no matter what the weather or the stairwell throws at us. We grew it into a family crew, and I still build the daily truck board myself.
The people you’ll actually deal with
We’re 19 total, 15 of us out on trucks on a given day. Sherri Vandegrift keeps the office running — she books the calendar, handles the certificates of insurance, and sorts the billing. Dustin Rohlfing works the daily truck board across Winnebago County. On the crew, Cody Aldritch leads our historic-Rockford and tight-stairwell jobs, Travis Bergren runs the long-haul lane down I-90 toward Chicago and Madison, and Wade Kohlmeier handles our Machesney Park and Loves Park subdivision work plus full-pack.

- Flat rate signed before we load — every job, every time, weather be damned
- The same crew loads you here and unloads you there; we never subcontract your move
- We carry our own commercial insurance and handle every claim ourselves, in-house
Family-owned since day one — the folks who answer the phone and drive the trucks all answer to me, so nothing about your move gets lost between a call center and a stranger.
Not sure what your move pencils out to? Price it on the moving calculator, look over everything we handle, or read what Rock River valley families told us on the reviews page.
